Pain During Passing Stool

Pain while passing stool is a common problem that affects many people. It is characterized by discomfort or sharp pain in the rectum or anus during bowel movements. The pain can be caused by various factors, including constipation, diarrhea, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and inflammatory bowel disease.

In this blog, we will understand the underlying cause and home remedies for pain during passing stools.

Reasons for Pain During Passing Stool

There are various reasons why a person may experience pain during passing stool, including;

One of the primary reasons is constipation, which happens when stool becomes hard and difficult to pass. This can cause discomfort and pain in the anal area. Other factors that can contribute to pain while passing stool include hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and inflammatory bowel disease.

Piles (Hemorrhoids)

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the rectum or anus that can cause pain, bleeding, and itching. They can be caused by straining during bowel movements or sitting for long periods of time. Anal fissures are small tears in the lining of the anus that can cause pain and bleeding. They can be caused by passing hard stools or trauma to the anal area.

A fissure is a tear in the skin around the anus. It can happen when you have a hard bowel movement, experience injury in that area, or give birth. Fissures can be very painful during passing stools.

Proctitis is a condition characterized by inflammation of the rectal lining, which can result in pain during bowel movements. It is often caused by infections, such as sexually transmitted diseases or inflammatory bowel disease. Symptoms may include pain during passing stool, rectal bleeding, diarrhea, and discomfort. Prompt medical attention is necessary for diagnosis and treatment.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic condition that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. It can cause pain, diarrhea, and bleeding during bowel movements. Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are the two most common types of IBD.

Other factors that can contribute to pain while passing stool include anal abscesses, prostate problems, and sexually transmitted infections.

It is important to consult with an experienced proctologist if you are experiencing pain during bowel movements, as they can help determine the underlying cause and provide appropriate treatment options.

When is Treatment Required For Pain During Passing Stools?

Treatment for pain during passing stools varies depending on the cause, the intensity of the pain, and how frequently it occurs. Sometimes, mild pain and discomfort can be treated with medications. Home Remedies for Pain During Passing Stool

Here are some home remedies to relieve pain and burning sensation while passing stool. These remedies are effective for burning anus treatment at home.

  •  Coconut oil: Coconut oil has been found to be effective in reducing pain while passing stool. The anti-inflammatory properties of coconut oil can help soothe the rectal area and reduce discomfort. It can also help to moisturize the area and prevent further irritation. To use coconut oil for this purpose, simply apply a small amount to the affected area before and after passing stool.
  • Aloe vera: Aloe vera is a natural remedy that may help relieve pain while passing stool. It has anti-inflammatory properties and may help soothe the affected area. Applying aloe vera gel topically to the anus may provide relief. However, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before using any new treatments.

It is recommended to use the ice pack for 15-20 minutes at a time, several times a day. Remember to wrap the ice pack in a towel or cloth to protect the skin from direct contact with the cold.
  • Hot Bath: A hot bath can help alleviate pain while passing stool. The warm water can relax the muscles in the anal area and reduce discomfort. Soaking in the tub for 15-20 minutes can also promote bowel movements and ease constipation. It is recommended to use water that is comfortably hot, but not scalding.
  • Sitz Bath: Use a sitz bath, which is a small basin that fits over the toilet, to soak the anal area in warm water and reduce pain.
  • Witch Hazel: Apply witch hazel to the affected area to reduce pain, swelling, and itching.

I had piles for quite some time and the condition didn’t improve after trying many home remedies. When I consulted Dr. Pankaj, I was stressed after knowing that I needed surgical treatment. Fortunately, the doctor briefed me before the procedure and told me that there won’t be any cuts or stitches as they use laser technology. I trusted my doctor and had the surgery the next day. There were no cuts, stitches, or scars involved in the surgery. Now I am recuperating well and don’t feel any pain during bowel movements thanks to Dr. Pankaj

After having laser surgery for piles myself, I would like to recommend it for people who want to get rid of piles permanently. The procedure is simple, safe, and effective. The doctor uses a laser probe that emits light energy and shrinks the swollen and inflamed tissues. The surgery took only 30 minutes and I was able to go back home on the same day. Thanks to the whole team helping me in this seamless surgical journey, I am now free from piles and can eat my favorite foods without worrying about the pain.
